Stuckey hits season-high 36 in victory

NBA: Rodney Stuckey scored a season-high 36 points and rookie Brandon Knight added 23 points and 10 assists as the Detroit Pistons rallied to beat the Sacramento Kings 114-108 Friday at Auburn Hills, Mich.

Tayshaun Prince finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Stuckey (Eastern Washington) was 12 for 20 from the floor and 11 for 12 from the free-throw line. Detroit has won six of its last eight games after a 4-20 start.

The Kings threatened to pull away several times in the first three quarters, but couldn’t stop Stuckey. His pair of free throws at the end of the third gave him 31 points and pulled Detroit within 88-86.

• Lin ties high for turnovers in loss: Jeremy Lin committed nine turnovers, tied for the most in the NBA this season, and the New York Knicks had their seven-game winning streak stopped with an 89-85 loss to the visiting New Orleans Hornets.

Lin scored 26 points, but his turnovers nearly doubled his five assists and the Knicks lost for the first time since Linsanity began, falling back below .500 at 15-16 heading into a matchup with defending NBA champion Dallas on Sunday.

• Bobcats end 16-game skid: Reggie Williams scored a season-high 22 points to help the Charlotte Bobcats snap a 16-game losing streak by beating the host Toronto Raptors 98-91. Charlotte avoided becoming the 28th team in NBA history to drop at least 17 straight games.

• James, Heat blast Cavaliers: LeBron James scored 28 in his third game back to Cleveland as a visitor, Dwyane Wade added 22 and the Miami Heat won their fifth straight – all on the road – by destroying the Cavaliers 111-87.

Mickelson remains in lead by one stroke

Golf: Phil Mickelson wasn’t at his best at Riviera in Los Angeles. Two shots at least helped him stay in the lead. Despite having only two birdie chances inside 15 feet, Mickelson holed out from the eighth fairway for eagle and chipped in for birdie on the par-3 16th. That carried him to a 1-under 70 and a one-shot lead over Pat Perez in the Northern Trust Open.

As usual, the 144-man could not finish before darkness. Eight players will have to return this morning to finish, with the cut likely to be at 3-over 145.

• Webb increases lead: Karrie Webb had a birdie and three pars in the completion of the lightning-delayed second round of the LPGA Thailand to increase her lead to three strokes at Siam Country Club in Chonburi. Webb finished with a 7-under 65 to reach 11 under.

• Mize leads with 62: Larry Mize shot a 10-under 62 to grab the first-round lead at the Champions Tour ACE Group Classic in Naples, Fla.

The 62 matched his career low that he shot in 1985 on the PGA Tour.

Red Wings win 22nd straight at home

NHL: Pavel Datsyuk scored with 5 seconds left to give the Detroit Red Wings 22nd consecutive home victory, 2-1 over the Nashville Predators.

Two nights after breaking the NHL single-season record for consecutive home victories, the Red Wings tied Boston’s multiple-season mark.

The Bruins closed the 1929-30 season with 20 victories at home and won their first two the following season.

Yanks to trade Burnett to Pirates

Baseball: The Yankees agreed to trade much-maligned pitcher A.J. Burnett to Pittsburgh for two minor leaguers, a deal that clears the way New York to add outfielder Raul Ibanez.

Pittsburgh will pay $13 million of the $33 million salary due Burnett for 2012 and 2013, a person familiar with the negotiations said.

New York will also receive two low-level prospects.

Loyola Marymount downs Valparaiso

Miscellany: Anthony Ireland had game highs of 19 points and eight rebounds and Loyola Marymount (18-10) used a 10-0 second-half run to defeat Valparaiso (19-10) 61-53 in a college basketball BracketBusters matchup.

• American wins freestyle event: At Kreischberg, Austria, American skier Scotty Bahrke and Laura Peel of Australia both earned their first career World Cup victories at a freestyle aerials event.
