St. John’s ends UConn’s win streak at 99

College basketball: Shenneika Smith’s 3-pointer from the wing with 8 seconds left lifted St. John’s (18-8, 10-3 Big East) to a 57-56 win over No. 2 Connecticut (24-3, 11-2) on Saturday night at Storrs, Conn., snapping the Huskies’ 99-game homecourt winning streak.

It was also the Huskies’ first home loss to an unranked opponent in nearly 19 years.

Trailing by two with 16 seconds left, Nadirah McKenith drove the lane and kicked it out to Smith, who hit the 3 to give the Red Storm the lead.

• No. 17 Michigan beats No. 6 Ohio State: Jordan Morgan had 11 points and 11 rebounds, playing All-America forward Jared Sullinger to a near stalemate, as No. 17 Michigan (20-7, 10-4 Big 10) beat No. 6 Ohio State (22-5, 10-4) 56-51 at Ann Arbor, Mich., to remain unbeaten at home.

Sullinger scored 14 on 6-for-14 shooting.

• Kansas State tops No. 9 Baylor: Angel Rodriguez had 15 points and six assists and Kansas State (18-8, 7-7 Big 12) held on for a 57-56 victory over No. 9 Baylor (22-5, 9-5) at Waco, Texas.

Neal, Spurs beat Clippers in overtime

NBA: Gary Neal hit key 3-pointers in regulation and overtime, Tony Parker scored 30 points and the visiting San Antonio Spurs held off the Los Angeles Clippers 103-100.

Neal stole the ball and hit the tying 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds left in regulation. His 3 with 25 seconds to go in overtime snapped a 98-all tie.

• Blazers beat Hawks: LaMarcus Aldridge had 19 points and 10 rebounds in his return from a left ankle injury and the Portland Trail Blazers beat the visiting Atlanta Hawks 97-77.

Nicolas Batum had 22 points for the Trail Blazers.

Burrows and Sedins combine for 10 points

NHL: Alex Burrows and Daniel and Henrik Sedin combined for 10 points in the Vancouver Canucks’ 6-2 thrashing of the Toronto Maple Leafs at Vancouver, British Columbia.

Burrows scored two goals, Daniel Sedin had a goal and three assists, and twin brother Henrik added four assists. • Stamkos scores 40th goal as Lighting win: Steven Stamkos scored his NHL-leading 40th goal of the season and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Washington Capitals 2-1 at Tampa, Fla.

Federer and Del Potro meet in final

Tennis: Top-seeded Roger Federer reached the ABN Amro World Tennis final with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nikolay Davydenko at Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Federer will play for the championship today against Juan Martin del Potro. The third-seeded Argentine downed second-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-3, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

• Azarenka to meet Stosur in Qatar Open: Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka reached the Qatar Open final, defeating Agenieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-4 at Doha, Qatar.

Azarenka will play Australia’s Sam Stosur for the title today. Stosur advanced in her semifinal when Marion Bartoli retired.

Perry sets record on Champions Tour

Golf: Kenny Perry shot a 10-under 62 to set the Champions Tour’s 36-hole scoring record in the Ace Group Classic. Perry is at 18-under 126 at Naples, Fla.

• Mickelson takes wild ride into share of the lead: Phil Mickelson scrambled his way to a 1-under 70 and was tied for the lead with PGA champion Keegan Bradley at the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.

• Japan’s Miyazato leads LPGA Thailand: Ai Miyazato shot a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead over top-ranked Yani Tseng after the third round of the LPGA Thailand in Chonburi, Thailand.

Canada’s Humphries wins bobsled gold

Miscellany: Canada’s Kaillie Humphries won the women’s gold medal at the Bobsled World Championships at Lake Placid, N.Y.

• Klitschko unanimously outpoints Chisora: Vitali Klitschko unanimously outpointed British challenger Dereck Chisora to keep the WBC heavyweight title at Munich.

• Hirscher wins giant slalom after Ligety mistake: Marchel Hirscher took advantage of a mistake by rival Ted Ligety to win a World Cup giant slalom at Bansko, Bulgaria, and overtake the American for first place in the discipline standings.

• Hoy wins gold at London Olympic Velodrome: British cycling star Chris Hoy won a gold medal on the London Velodrome on which he hopes to add to his four Olympic titles.

• Gray tops Funny Car field: Johnny Gray took the No. 1 spot in Funny Car qualifying in the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway at Chandler, Ariz.
