Age 79

IMUS, Nola A.
December 2, 1932 - February 16, 2012

Nola A. Imus passed away peacefully at her home with family members by her side after a long illness with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

She was born in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and daughter of William and Florence Pintler of Newman Lake.

Nola had two brothers, Charles and Virgil Pintler, and three sisters, Cleo Casey, Wilma Pintler, and Charlotte McLucas.

Nola was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings Cleo, Charlie, Virgil, and Wilma.

Nola attended Otis Orchards Elementary School, and graduated from Otis Orchards High School in 1951.

Nola is survived by her husband of 58 years, LeRoy F. Imus of Spokane Valley, WA; her children and spouses: Audrey Wilson of Spokane, WA; Michael and Suzanne Imus of Sandy Valley, NV; and Randy and Julie Imus of Portland, OR; her sister, Charlotte (Paul) McLucas of Spokane Valley; her beloved grandchildren: Nathan Hauber, Matthew Wilson, Katie Imus, Carrie Imus, Bethany Imus, and Nolan Imus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of special friends.

Nola was called “my little sweetie” by LeRoy and a very loving and caring mother to her three children.

Nola was an exceptional wife, mother, sister, grandmother, daughter, and friend.

Many cherished her presence, and she had many long term friends.

Nola had a strong focus on her family and family activities throughout her lifetime.

Nola loved nature and animals, gardening, flowers, crafts, and her home very much.

She was a tireless homemaker who did much cooking and canning, and liked to bake pies, cakes, jams and jellies in addition to many other things.

Nola won multiple awards from the Spokane Interstate Fair for jam and jelly entries.

Her hobbies included acrylic and oil painting, writing, playing the piano and organ, dancing, and camping and travel in Washington and Montana.

Nola was a very strong individual others seemed to feel comfortable in confiding with regarding their own personal experiences, as she would provide help to them by listening with an open-minded attitude.

Her life was based on a strong set of morals and character.
Nola felt a need to participate in government and volunteer activities to help her community.

She frequently participated at the local voting site as an officer held accountable to the voting ballots and submission of votes to the Spokane County seat which she enjoyed.

Nola was also an active member and officer of the Newman Lake Fire Department Auxiliary for many years and organized many fund raising activities and projects for the department.

Nola and LeRoy also were members of SCOPE (Spokane County Operation Police Effort) a part of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department for many years and took an active part in the Newman Lake community.

Nola also took pride in being involved with the Spokane Valley Heritage Museum and volunteered to record Children’s Books for the Blind.

In her later years, after much research and time, and with the help of her youngest sister, Charlotte McLucas, they were able to compile family history and information into a historical non-fiction book as it relates to the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness area in Montana.

This book is now held as a significant family resource which can be passed down through the generations.

During the progression of her illness, Nola attempted to actively increase the public awareness of Pulmonary Fibrosis, and the help and funding available for this disease in hopes of finding a cure.

She went to great lengths to try to make this happen, but felt this disease did not receive enough attention.

Her desire was that this disease be as well known as is Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, AIDS, Muscular Dystrophy, etc.

The Imus family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Horizon Hospice and ResCare Home Care.

Visitation for Nola will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
