Age 83


MESKE, Hugo

Passed away February 17, 2012, in Spokane.

He was born August 22, 1928, in Bessarabia, the son of Edward and Anna (Witt) Meske.

He later moved to Germany with his family.

Hugo came to the United States in 1952.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years, and during that time, he obtained his U.S. citizenship.

Hugo met Leona Mann of Harrington, WA, and they were married on August 11, 1956.

Hugo was a baker and owned/operated The Old Country Bakery on Riverside in downtown Spokane during the 60s.

Hugo also was a baker for Safeway Stores for over 20 years and retired in 1990.


He is survived by his wife, Leona, at their home; his brother, Horst Meske, and sister, Hilda Maurer, both living in Germany; two children, Phillip Meske of Castaic, CA, and Elaine Sherer of Colbert, WA; and five grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, February 24, at 2 PM at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington, WA.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 25, at the Colbert Chapel Church in Colbert.
The family desires that any memorial donations be made to the Colbert Chapel Church, 4922 E. Bernhill Rd., Colbert, WA 99005.
