Jack was born to Lillian Shark Poole and Frederick Gifford Poole on March 5, 1921 in Windsor, Ontario Canada.
The family soon moved to Detroit, Michigan where Jack completed his primary and secondary education, played and watched hockey (Friday nights: 3 games for 25c), developed a love for baseball, and became passionately curious at the local library (still there!).
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePauw University in 1942.
An employee of IBM for more than 25 years, Jack worked as an engineering administrator and systems analyst, retiring in 1980.
He was part of the development team that created the magnetic strip so widely used today.
A life-long love of reading and writing led to his creation of poems, short stories, articles, editorials and letters.
He wrote and published a children’s story, a novella, and a novel entitled Valiant Dreamers , a history of a Russian presence in North America during the reign of Tsar Alexander.
Jack leaves behind a much-loved wife, Nancy Young; a daughter Barbara Diane Burns; and two sons, Craig Stephen Poole and Eric Martin Poole.
A daughter, Judy Ann Adams, died in March, 2011.
