Evans leads Sasquatch men to victory

Luke Evans scored 15 points off the bench and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team beat host Yakima Valley (16-9, 9-4) 73-72 on Wednesday.

Preston Wynne and Eric Holbrook each scored 11 points for the Sasquatch (21-4, 10-2).

• Ashley Swetzof scored 22 points to lead the Yakima Valley women (20-6, 10-3) to an 81-43 victory over CCS (6-18, 1-11) in Yakima.

Megan Tullis scored eight points to lead the Sasquatch.

Idaho 3A District I

Ryan Beggerly and Ryan McDonald both scored 12 points and Kellogg (17-3) used a strong defensive effort to beat Timberlake 70-42 at Lakeland.

The Wildcats will play St. Maries, which beat Bonners Ferry 67-43, tonight at 7:30 at Lakeland for a state berth.

The Tigers (14-7) face Bonners Ferry at 6 in a loser-out game.

College swimming

The Idaho women are in fifth place after two events at the Western Athletic Conference Championships in San Antonio.

The Vandals finished fifth in both relay events on the first day of competition. The 800 free relay team broke the school record by nearly 8 seconds, finishing in 7 minutes, 25.74 seconds.
