Marguerite S.

Marguerite S. Parton passed away February 18, 2012 at the age of 97.

Born June 1, 1914 in Norton, Kansas, she attended Marysville Teachers College in 1934 to prepare for a teaching career.

She married and moved to Oregon.

The family then moved to Spokane in 1952.

At age 40 she went back to school and then began her teaching career.

Marguerite taught 3rd grade at Lidgerwood Elementary in Spokane for six years.
In 1964 she started teaching for Eastern Washington University at the Campus School, where prospective teachers would observe her classes.

Marguerite was promoted into the Education Department at EWU in 1970 to teach beginning teachers how to teach reading, and helped develop the Reading major program there.

She retired from her career in education as a professor at EWU.

In her retirement she enjoyed travelling and discovered a talent for painting with watercolors.

She was also devoted to her family, friends and her long-time hobby of quilting.


Marguerite was preceded in death by her son Donald L. Parton, and is survived by her sons Leslie C. Parton, Larry E. Parton, stepdaughters LaVerne Barnes, Ami Diallo, grandchildren Ken Parton, Wayne Parton, Juli Wilhite, Robert Parton, Jerrald Parton, Susan Rogers, and great-grandchildren Jordan Dalgarn, Joseph Dalgarn, Allison Parton, and Maddeline Rogers.
Services will be held Sunday, February 26 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St, Spokane.
