Vehicle prowling suspects identified

Liberty Lake police have identified two suspects in the recent string of vehicle prowlings in the city, but no arrests have been made. Police have already recovered some stolen property and are looking at pawn shops for other stolen items, said police Chief Brian Asmus.

One of the suspects, whose name has not yet been released by police, has been interviewed about his role in the thefts, Asmus said. Investigators are waiting for the other suspect to return to town from a trip.

Police are preparing a list of stolen items. Anyone who can identify items taken in recent thefts should call Detective Ray Bourgeois at (509) 755-1142.

Several arrests were made during the week of Feb. 13-20. A 36-year-old Liberty Lake man was arrested on Feb. 13 for a domestic violence assault that was reported in the 1500 block of North Meyer Court. There were four arrests for driving with a suspended license, one for driving under the influence and one on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

An employee of a business in the 1300 block of North Liberty Lake Road called police at 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 15 to report two men who said they had been drinking all day. An officer found the two as they were preparing to drive away, Asmus said. The two admitted to having a beer earlier and took the officer’s suggestion that they walk home instead of driving, Asmus said.

A resident in the 2100 block of Sedge Lane called police on Feb. 16 to report discovering items missing after an estate sale in an apartment on Jan. 28. Several people were in and out of the apartment that day and a digital camera and camera case that also contained over $2,500 in cash reportedly were missing, Asmus said.

Two people who attended an event at the Valley Hub the afternoon of Feb. 18 called police to report that someone had broken out car windows and taken items from inside their cars. A backpack full of school items and a Macbook Pro were reported missing.

Officers also recovered a stolen vehicle in the 22800 block of Country Vista Drive on Feb. 16. The car had been reported stolen in Spokane almost two weeks earlier.

During the week officers handed out two citations for failure to initially register a vehicle, four for failure to provide proof of liability insurance and 10 for speeding. Additional citations were given for defective muffler, failure to yield on a left turn and reckless driving by racing.
