ACH, Columbia girls qualify for 1B state

Garth Woldseth The Spokesman-Review

The Almira/Coulee-Hartline Warriors are on the march, led by the inside-outside attack of senior guard Madeline Isaak and senior post Miranda Porterfield.

ACH (20-4) advanced to the State 1B girls basketball tournament after beating Moses Lake Christian Academy 45-35 Saturday night at Shadle Park High School.

Isaak controlled the game by handling the ball and pestering the Lions’ guards on the perimeter. She finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and eight steals.

Porterfield was the game’s leading scorer with 17 points on 5-for-12 shooting from the floor and 7 for 9 from the free-throw line. She also collected seven rebounds.

ACH had the advantage of experience, with four seniors in the starting lineup, while Moses Lake had only one.

But ACH coach Mike Correia knew not to overlook the Lions in the loser-out game.

“That’s a good young team and they gave everything they have,” Correia said. “… I knew they’d play us tough and they did and (I’m) just happy to get there (to state).”

ACH led most of the game, taking a 23-16 lead into halftime. The lead was extended to double digits in the third quarter, and the closest Moses Lake came was six points with 5 minutes left.

Tough defense by the Warriors after that helped them end any threat and extend the lead back to double digits. ACH got 28 points off of 29 Moses Lake turnovers.

Columbia 77, Wilson Creek 11: The Lions (25-1) also advanced to state by beating the Devils in the earlier game at Shadle.

Elizabeth Larrew, Lindsay Loe and Krista Colvin combined to score 70 Columbia points. Larrew led the group with 32 points and eight steals while Colvin added 18 points, seven rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals. Loe put in 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
