Mildred E. Morris, long time Colfax resident, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at her home.

She was 97.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, March 3rd, at 11:00 AM at the Colfax Church of the Nazarene.

Pastor Don Moore will officiate.

Private family interment will be in the Colfax Cemetery.

Mildred was born at Humphreys, Missouri November 7, 1914 to Roy and Edna (Steele) Cotter.

She grew up on the family farm there and worked in the fields alongside her siblings.

She was the second child of six born into the family.

Mildred married Eldon Dean Morris in Kirksville, Missouri June 20, 1940.

They lived on his family farm in Sullivan County, Missouri where they raised corn, sugar cane, beans and other crops as well as animals.

They started their family here as well and Mildred was a loving and devoted mother.

They moved to Elberton, Washington in 1948 and Eldon began working for the pea mill in Garfield and later took a job for Whitman County.

They moved to Colfax in 1951.

Mildred worked at the Model Steam Laundry for many years and then completed 18 years as a Nurse’s Aide at the Nursing Home.

She retired in 1979.

Mildred was an active member of the Colfax Church of the Nazarene and had taught Sunday school there for many years as well as served as Missionary President.

She was active in the Thrifty Grandmothers in Colfax for over 30 years and had served as its President.

She was a gifted seamstress and had hand-quilted many quilts for family and friends over the years.

She and Eldon loved to go fishing and hunting.

Mildred rarely missed an elk hunting trip to the Blue Mountains.

They also travelled some and she enjoyed many trips back to Missouri to visit relatives.

She is survived by five children; Norman (Mary) Davis of Kalispell, MT, Roy (Thelma) Morris, Colfax, Elaine (Jim) Krouse, Colfax, Eugene Morris, Colfax, and Ilene Suksdorf, Spokane; 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Dora Bennett of Browning, MO.

Her husband Eldon passed away in 2007.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Druclia, 3 sisters, a brother, a grandson and a great-granddaughter.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Friends of Hospice, 1610 NE Eastgate Blvd, #850, Pullman, WA.
