Body found on downtown river bank

By The Spokesman-Review

A fly-fisherman found a body in the Spokane River this afternoon.

Police do not know the identity, age or sex of the body, or the cause or manner of death.

The body was found near Main Avenue and Monroe Street – near the Spokane Club and west of the Monroe Street Bridge – on some rocks above the waterline near the south bank of the river.

Major Crimes Detectives with the Spokane Police Department are at the scene investigating. Police got the call about 3:30 p.m.

Spokane Fire Department crews are also at the scene to help remove the body, which is down a steep, snowy embankment. They launched a boat and are rappelling down the embankment to reach the body.
