Signed Already loaded, the Seattle Storm added another All-Star to the lineup by signing forward Tina Thompson, the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer. Thompson spent the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks and finished the 2011 season with 6,751 points, ahead of Katie Smith (6,015) and Lauren Jackson (5,915). Smith and Jackson are now her teammates with the Storm. Thompson is an eight-time All-Star during a 15-year WNBA career. She also won Olympic gold medals for the U.S. in 2004 and 2008. The 37-year-old Thompson started 33 of 34 games last season for Los Angeles and averaged 9.9 points, the lowest total of her career.

Out Five-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller will undergo another surgery on his balky left knee and miss the remainder of the World Cup season. The U.S. ski team didn’t release a date for Miller’s next surgery. Miller says he will return to training, “as soon as possible. I’m still having fun and as long as skiing is enjoyable, I’m going to continue to do it.” The 34-year-old Miller had four podium finishes this season, including a win on the challenging Birds of Prey downhill course at Beaver Creek in December. He was 10th in the overall standings.

Died Former president and general manager of the Seattle SuperSonics, Zollie Volchok, died Sunday night in Seattle. He was 95. Volchok, whose roots were in vaudeville and entertainment, was talked out of retirement by owner Sam Schulman to become the Sonics’ general manager. He held that position when the team won its only NBA championship in 1979. The Mercer Island, Wash., resident also owned a 5 percent share of the Sonics when Schulman sold the team to Barry Ackerley in 1983.

Surgery University of Connecticut men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun has undergone what the school says was successful surgery to address the spinal condition that has forced him to miss the Huskies’ past seven games. Calhoun issued a statement thanking his doctors and those who reached out to him to offer support. The school says Calhoun’s coaching status will be monitored on a day-to-day basis, and there is no timetable set for his return.
