Do good: Dine Out to Feed Spokane

Add two reasons to your list of advantages to eating out this month: It will help feed hungry people and support local restaurants.

Restaurants participating in Dine Out to Feed Spokane will offer specials and promotions during the month of March and donate a portion of money raised to Feed Spokane. The event is sponsored by the Greater Spokane Dietetic Association during National Nutrition Month.

Feed Spokane is a nonprofit food rescue agency that gathers leftover prepared food from local restaurants and delivers it to more than 30 food distribution sites so it can be served to families in need. More than 16,000 meals are served at the meal sites each week.

This year, 21 restaurants are participating in the event. A list of restaurants, along with the dates they will be donating to Dine Out to Feed Spokane, can be found at www.eat rightwashington. org/GSDA/.

Nectar expands tasting room

Nectar Tasting Room is expanding.

Owner Josh Wade announced that the wine tasting business, 120 N. Stevens St., will add an extra 1,000 square feet next door. The Barrel Room will give the business an ability to host more private events while the main tasting room remains open to the public. The space is formerly home to the LaunchPadINW training center. Wade plans to update the space with the same urban-modern style as the tasting room and add a wall of wine barrels for décor.

Nectar Tasting Room is shared by five Washington wineries: Anelare Winery, Hard Row to Hoe Vineyards, Northwest Cellars, Skylite Cellars, and Terra Blanca Winery.

The business also expanded its food options recently. Wade said customers wanted more than just the meat and cheese trays that were offered.

“While being a restaurant or wine bar is not our business model, we knew we could do more,” Wade said in a news release.

Just a Couple of Moms catering and the nearby Soulful Soups and Spirits and Sushi.com will contribute the new offerings, which include a baked brie plate, lamb skewers with blue cheese, sushi sampler, and soup and beer bread.
