HURLBERT, Kathryn E.
“Betty”

of Spokane, was called to her heavenly home on February 3, 2012 in Spokane, WA.

She was born in Sitka, Alaska on November 14, 1921 to Albert and Kathryn Harding.

Their family lived several places on the West coast throughout the years of the Great Depression.

They finally settled in Omak in 1945.

Betty was first married to William Hicks.

They had three children together.

In 1962 she married Fred Hurlbert.

Mother worked in Omak first in the Apple Packing Shed in East Omak in the early 50’s.

She became the “paper lady”… delivering the morning Spokesman-Review paper for a number of years.

In the afternoons she would deliver dry cleaning for Pock Dry Cleaners.

Most of her work life was spent working at J C Penny.

She retired in 1983.

Mother loved her garden and grew very large tomatoes which she shared with everyone.

Mother was a preacher’s daughter, raised on church pews.

She continued to love and serve the Lord all of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son Bill Hicks and great grand-daughters Halle Mitchell and Emma Mitchell.

Surviving are brother Albert Harding of Eau Claire WI, sister Miriam Downey of Omak WA, step-son, Cecil Hurlbert (Lucille) of Omak WA and daughters Kathy (Rod) Mitchell of Coeur d Alene, ID and Laura Hicks of Spokane WA.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Kevin Mitchell (Vickie) of Lewiston ID, Kimberli Mitchell (Paul) of Rathdrum ID, Chad Mitchell of Hayden ID, Rob Wood Big Sky, MT, Christine Pearson of Spokane WA, Leslie Hurlbert (Darlene) Omak WA, Bob Hurlbert (June) of AZ and Leah McCormack (Tom) Omak WA.

16 Great-Grandchildren, and three Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel on Elmway in Okanogan.

Interment was at Omak Memorial Cemetery.
