Trimmer’s reports will be missed
In this coming year, a familiar byline won’t be seen as often on The Spokesman-Review sports pages: Dave Trimmer.
The retirement of Trimmer is a big loss to Spokane and to the future athletes in the community. In my opinion, Dave’s biggest asset as a reporter was the connection he was able to make with his subjects. Many times these subjects were high school or college athletes, who aren’t the easiest to get a workable quote out of, let alone develop a story around.
I should know, Dave interviewed me when I was a senior in high school after a big win and somehow he was able to write the game story through my gibberish.
In an era when the gap between coaches and reporters is at an all-time high, Dave was able to buck that trend and build relationships with coaches, and they could trust him with sensitive material and valued his integrity as a reporter.
Now, 17 years later, I consider him a friend and not just a reporter.
Thanks, Dave, for all your work informing Spokane and telling the story through the words of its athletes.
