Vikings dominate Bengals

The tables were turned on the defending champions Tuesday night.

Known best for its stingy defense, Lewiston couldn’t do much offensively in a 53-31 Inland Empire League high school basketball loss to host Coeur d’Alene.

With the win, the Vikings (12-2, 2-1) earned a season split with the team that beat them in the 5A state title game last season.

Kendalyn Brainard had 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists to lead Coeur d’Alene. The Vikings’ Erin Legel added 15 points.

A 12-2 first-quarter run set to the tone for the Vikings. Lewiston (9-2, 1-1) closed the gap to three points at the half but Coeur d’Alene took an 18-point lead into the fourth.

Chelsea Waters and Tisha Phillips scored 10 points apiece to lead Lewiston.

Great Northern

Clarkston 45, West Valley 39: Jamie Weisner scored 18 of her game-high 25 points in the first half as the Bantams (7-1, 1-0) edged the host Eagles (3-5, 0-1) in a league opener. Jenae Martin led West Valley with 12 points.

Deer Park 51, Medical Lake 37: The Stags (5-4, 1-0) took control in the second quarter and eased past the visiting Cardinals (1-8, 0-1). Tessa Heins scored 13 points and Danielle Beltrame added 10 for Deer Park. Cassi Jo Nilles tallied scored 15 for the Cardinals.

East Valley 49, Pullman 32: Erin Wallman and Brooklyn Bellomy combined for 30 points as the Knights (4-4, 1-0) beat the host Greyhounds (1-6, 0-1). Kaitlyn Moos led the Greyhounds with eight points.

Intermountain

Priest River 46, St. Maries 26: The Spartans’ pressure defense led to 24 steals in a win over the visiting Lumberjacks (2-6, 0-2). Steffie Pavey had 17 points, seven steals and five rebounds and Liz Halcro added eight points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for Priest River (7-4, 2-0).

Bonners Ferry 37, Timberlake 36: Aubree Wasmer scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Badgers (5-5, 2-1) edged the visiting Tigers (6-6, 2-1). Kelly Madsen scored a game-high 18 points for Timberlake.

Northeast A

Freeman 47, Chewelah 15: A dominating first quarter was all the Scotties (9-0, 1-0) needed in a rout of the visiting Cougars (2-9, 0-1) on the opening night of league play. Molly McIntyre had 10 points and seven steals and Alisha Sorensen chipped in nine points for the Scotties.

Lakeside (Wash.) 47, Riverside 35: The Eagles (6-5, 1-0) held the Rams (5-6, 0-1) scoreless for the first 12 minutes of the second half and cruised to the win at Nine Mile Falls. Tayler Flemming had 19 points and seven rebounds for Lakeside, while Courtney Davis scored 21 points for Riverside.

Bi-County

Colfax 50, Davenport 42: Hannah Harazin had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Bulldogs (5-3, 4-1) gained control early and held on to beat the host Gorillas (4-5, 2-4). Miranda Mielke tallied a game-high 19 points for Davenport.

Northwest Christian 41, Springdale 19: Hannah Dietzen led all players with 21 points and the Crusaders (8-2, 5-1) stormed past the visiting Chargers (3-7, 3-3). Taylor Smith led Springdale with 13 points.

Reardan 71, St. George’s 22: The Dragons (3-5, 2-2) had no answer for Kelsey Moos and were routed by the host Indians (10-0, 6-0). Moos had 25 points, nine rebounds, seven steals, seven assists and four blocks for Reardan.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 45, Liberty 20: Davi Killian scored 12 points and Andrea Bennett added 11 as the Broncos (4-5, 2-5) routed the visiting Lancers (0-9, 0-6). LRS committed just six turnovers.

Panorama

Wellpinit 43, Inchelium 39 (OT): Dani Flett led a balanced attack with 11 points as the Redskins (2-6, 2-2) edged the visiting Hornets (4-4, 1-3). Maraia Zacherle led Inchelium with 17 points.

Nonleague

Lake City 34, Moscow 24: Jansen Butler scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Timberwolves (9-5) clipped the visiting Bears (5-8) in a defensive battle. Lakeside (Idaho) 33, Coeur d’Alene Charter 30: The Knights (3-5) erased an eight-point second-half deficit and edged the Panthers (3-9) in Plummer. Shannon Miller had 15 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals for Lakeside. Lexi Turkenburg led Coeur d’Alene Charter with 16 points.

Kettle Falls 61, Curlew 21: The Bulldogs (3-6) opened up a commanding first-half lead and raced past the visiting Cougars (2-7). Josie Stanard scored 16 for Curlew and Kourtney Kennan added 14 for KF.

Selkirk 68, Valley Christian 25: Courtney Holter scored 28 points as the Rangers (8-3) ran past the host Panthers (4-5). Lindy Riggan led Valley Christian with 14 points.

Tonasket 34, Republic 30: Anna Kilpatrick scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the fourth as Tonasket edged host Republic (8-3). Kacie Lane led Republic with 12 points.

Columbia 55, Odessa-Harrington 20: Krista Colvin scored 23 points and the Lions (10-1) routed the host Titans (1-7). Mackenzie Parrow added 16 points for Columbia. Kendall Todd led Odessa-Harrington with 11 points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 57, Entiat 19: Madeline Isaak scored 16 points and Miranda Porterfield added 11 points as the Warriors (7-2) routed host Entiat.

St. Michael’s 29, Northport 27: Brittani Urann scored 12 points as the Warriors (3-4) edged the visiting Mustangs (1-9). Northport was led by Kassie Guglielmino’s 19 points.
