West Valley climbed out of an 11-point first-quarter hole and edged Clarkston 52-49 in a Great Northern League boys high school basketball opener Tuesday night at West Valley.
Morgan Byrd made a layin with 6 seconds left to extend the Eagles’ lead to three and Clarkston’s Kage Sobotta missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Jake Love scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead West Valley (8-0), which trailed 18-7 after the first quarter. The Eagles slowly gained ground on the Bantams in the second and third quarters and completely stole the momentum in the fourth.
Drew Adams and DePaul Blunt scored 10 points apiece for Clarkston (6-2).
Pullman 55, East Valley 37: Corey Langerveld scored 15 and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Greyhounds (8-1, 1-0) past the host Knights (6-3, 0-1). J.T. Phelan had 16 points and eight rebounds for EV.
Medical Lake 57, Deer Park 45: The Cardinals (4-5) took control in the third and beat the host Stags (4-5). Kendyl Dunn and Adam Paulson scored 14 points for Medical Lake. Blake Starbuck had 16 points for Deer Park.

Coeur d’Alene 55, Lewiston 41: Travis Tackett and Ty Bigbie scored 13 points apiece as the Vikings (6-3, 1-0) beat the visiting Bengals (4-6, 0-1). Randon Fuentes tallied a team-high 15 points for Lewiston.

Freeman 62, Chewelah 46: Cody Unfred scored 22 points and Kellen Miller added 19 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as the Scotties (6-5, 1-0) opened league with a win over the visiting Cougars (8-3, 0-1). Ben Johnstone scored 22 points for Chewelah.
Newport 60, Colville 46: Jake Wiley had 20 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks as the Grizzlies (7-3, 1-0) started strong and held on to beat the visiting Indians (6-6, 0-1). Newport’s Jeron Konkright added 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting. Matt Hubbard led Colville with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
Lakeside (Wash.) 63, Riverside 50: Conner Moffatt scored 21 points and Jake Widman and Demetrius Watson added 10 apiece as the Eagles (6-5, 1-0) beat the visiting Rams (4-7, 0-1) in Nine Mile Falls. Jordan Wood tallied a game-high 23 points for Riverside.
Northwest Christian 89, Springdale 34: Kwinn Hanson led four players in double figures with 18 points and the Crusaders (10-0, 6-0) stayed undefeated with a win over the visiting Chargers (3-7, 1-5). Josh Beltz added 16 points and nine boards for NWC.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 60, Liberty 46: Dylan Hartz had 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Broncos (4-6, 2-5) past the visiting Lancers (4-5, 2-4). Darien Rhoads led Liberty with 17 points.
Reardan 65, St. George’s 51: The Indians (4-6, 3-3) opened the game on a 17-4 run and eased past the visiting Dragons (5-3, 3-1). Trevor Peone had 23 points for Reardan. Mark Kenney scored 23 points for St. George’s.
Wellpinit 76, Inchelium 18: The Redskins (5-5, 4-0) forced the visiting Hornets (0-8, 0-4) into 42 turnovers as Wellpinit cruised. Greg Wynecoop scored 20 points and A.J. Kieffer added 14 for the Redskins.
Lake City 58, Moscow 41: Kyle Guice scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and the Timberwolves (6-5) clipped the visiting Bears (4-5). Guice also pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked five shots. Derek Pennington tallied 11 points for Moscow.
Post Falls 59, Moses Lake 45: Marcus Colbert scored 15 points and the Trojans (10-0) used a 19-9 second-quarter run to get past visiting Moses Lake. Luke Thoreson added 10 points for Post Falls.
Kettle Falls 59, Curlew 32: The Bulldogs (2-7) jumped ahead early and cruised past the visiting Cougars (1-8). Conner McKern scored 12 points to lead Kettle Falls. Jamie Zerck had 16 points and seven rebounds to lead Curlew.
Coeur d’Alene Charter 61, Lakeside (Idaho) 29: Bryan Smith hit six 3-pointers and scored 13 of his game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Panthers (6-4) dominated the visiting Knights (5-4). Damon Flemming-Soto tallied a team-high 13 points for Lakeside.
Colton 74, Grangeville 54: Jake Straughan made three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points as the Wildcats (7-1) beat the host Bulldogs. Dalton Patchen scored 16 points for Colton.
Lake Roosevelt 79, Liberty Bell 35: Ty Egbert exploded for 35 points as the Raiders crushed host Liberty Bell. Keith Rosenbaum added 11 points for Lake Roosevelt.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 74, Entiat 59: Derek Isaak had 26 points, six rebounds, six steals and six assists as the Warriors (8-1) routed host Entiat. Isaak now has 1,880 career points.
Tonasket 52, Republic 25: Tonasket closed the door in the second half and routed host Republic (1-10). Dan Slagle led Republic with six points.
Valley Christian 69, Selkirk 29: The Panthers (8-1) overcame a poor-shooting first-half and crushed the visiting Rangers (4-7). Craver Small had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Kolby Blew added 15 points and seven steals for Valley Christian.
Pomeroy 49, DeSales 33: Tyson Fieder scored 12 points and Riley Bott added 11 as the Pirates (4-4) cruised past visiting DeSales.
Odessa-Harrington 76, Columbia 23: The Titans’ pressure defense stymied the visiting Lions (1-8) as Odessa-Harrington (5-3) rolled. Cade Weber had 17 points for the Titans.
