Norman guides Shadle Park’s gymnastics win

 

Alana Norman won four out of five events on Thursday night as the host Shadle Park Highlanders defeated Ferris, Mt. Spokane, North Central and Rogers in a Greater Spokane League gymnastics meet.

Norman finished first in the all-around with 37.2 points, edging Mt. Spokane’s Courtney Bray (36.4 points).

Norman also placed first in balance beam (9.2), vault (9.5) and floor exercise (9.35) and was second on uneven bars.

Bray, who was second in beam, vault and floor, finished first on bars (9.3).

Boys basketball

Inland Empire League

Lakeland 52, Sandpoint 50 (2OT): Eric Cooper buried a 3-pointer with 11 seconds remaining in the second overtime and Tyrel Derrick came up with a timely steal as the host Hawks held on for a victory over the visiting Bulldogs at Rathdrum.

Cooper led the Hawks (3-7, 1-1) with 20 points. Jackson Olin led Sandpoint (3-7, 0-1) with 16 points.

North Star League

Kootenai 39, Mullan 20: Graydon Myhre led all players with 19 points as the Warriors (4-4, 2-0) defeated the Tigers (0-6, 0-2).

Girls basketball

Inland Empire League

Lakeland 49, Sandpoint 41: Kelsey Derby finished with 11 points and Toni Tapplin and Darby Murray each added nine points as the Hawks (8-6, 1-1) beat the Bulldogs at Rathdrum.

Sandpoint’s (6-7, 0-2) Hailey Olin led all players with 17 points.

North Star League

Kootenai 49, Mullan 29: Austin Anderson finished with 12 points as the Warriors (2-4, 1-0) defeated the Tigers (0-5, 0-3).

Nonleague

St. Maries 55, Orofino 19: Lakin Anzo finished with 14 points to lead the Lumberjacks past the host Maniacs.

Kaytrin Thaut added 11 points for St. Maries (3-6).
