The Spokane Chiefs took control early with three first-period goals and beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night in Seattle.
Mitch Holmberg opened the scoring with a goal at 10:36 of the first period.
Spokane got two more goals in the final 5 minutes of the first period to take a 3-0 lead.
Steven Kuhn scored off an assist from Corbin Baldwin and Todd Fiddler scored off assists from Brenden Kichton and Dominik Uher.
Fiddler’s goal was his third in the past five games.
Seattle closed the gap to 3-2 in the third, but Holmberg scored his second goal at 16:22 of the third period to cap the scoring.
Spokane remains in third place in the U.S. Division with a 19-13-2-3 mark. Seattle is fourth with a 16-21-0-1 record.
