Area roundup: Deer Park defeats EV in boys basketball

Uconn Peone made 13 of 20 shots and finished with 34 points as Deer Park upset East Valley 82-69 in Great Northern League boys basketball Saturday night at East Valley.

Zach Mohr scored 21 points and Blake Starbuck added 20 points and five rebounds for the Stags (5-6, 1-2), who won for just the second time in their past eight games.

Deer Park led by 12 points at halftime and shot a blistering 62 percent from the floor in the second half to seal the win.

East Valley (7-4, 1-2) got 22 points and 16 rebounds from J.T. Phelan. .

Medical Lake 53, Clarkston 43: Kendyl Dunn had a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Cardinals (5-6, 2-1) beat the visiting Bantams (6-3, 0-2). Adam Paulson added 20 points – including five 3-pointers – for Medical Lake, which led by 22 points at halftime. DePaul Blunt led Clarkston with 10 points.

Pullman 50, Cheney 33: Corey Langerveld scored 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting as the Greyhounds (10-1, 3-0) beat the visiting Blackhawks (6-4, 1-1). Austin Drake added 10 points for Pullman. Eric Igbinoba tallied a team-high eight points for Cheney.

Post Falls 55, Lewiston 41: Marcus Colbert scored 20 points and Michael Hillman added 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Trojans (11-0, 1-0) stayed perfect with a win over the visiting Bengals (5-7, 0-2). Sam Heitzman led Lewiston with 14 points.

IEL 4A

Moscow 60, Sandpoint 47: The Bears (5-6, 2-0) jumped out to an early lead and beat the visiting Bulldogs (3-8, 0-2). Dan McGurkin had a team-high 15 points for Moscow. Jackson Olin led Sandpoint with 20 points.

Northeast A

Colville 47, Lakeside 34: Matt Hubbard scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Indians (8-6, 2-1) past the visiting Eagles (6-7, 1-2). Alex Pond added 10 points for Colville. Grant Perkins scored a team-high eight points for Lakeside.

Chewelah 64, Newport 59: Ben Johnston scored 20 points and Dylan Smith added 18 as the Cougars (10-3, 2-1) edged the visiting Grizzlies (8-4, 2-1). Jake Wiley tallied a game-high 25 points for Newport.

Freeman 57, Riverside 44: Kellen Miller and Cody Unfred scored 19 points apiece as the Scotties (7-6, 2-1) ran past the host Rams (4-9, 0-3). Jordan Wood scored 28 points on 7-of-12 shooting for Riverside.

Bi-County 2B

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 63, Kettle Falls 32: Dylan Hartz scored 14 points and Tyler Frederick added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Broncos (5-6, 3-5) whipped the visiting Bulldogs (2-9, 0-7). Nathan Disque led Kettle Falls with 10 points.

St. George’s 81, Springdale 28: Will Tender made 9 of 11 shots and finished with 28 points and nine rebounds as the Dragons (7-3, 5-1) dominated the visiting Chargers (3-8, 1-6). Mark Kenney added 13 points for St. George’s. Kyle Cummings led Springdale with 11 points.

Bi-County 1B

Valley Christian 76, St. Michael’s 30: The Panthers (10-1, 2-0) shot 67 percent from the floor and routed the visiting Warriors (4-6, 0-1). Craver Small scored 24 points and Bo Pierson added 19 for Valley Christian, which led by 32 points at halftime. Gabe Durazo led St. Michael’s with 15 points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 61, Odessa-Harrington 43: Derek Isaak scored 28 points and Thunder Wellhausen added 16 as the Warriors (10-1, 2-0) beat the host Titans (5-5, 0-2). Justin Hunt led Odessa-Harrington with 18 points.

North Star

Lakeside 48, Wallace 31: Joseph Chapman had 12 points, six steals and three assists to lead the Knights (6-4, 1-0) past the visiting Miners (3-5, 1-1) in Plummer. Lamont Higgins added nine points and 12 rebounds for Lakeside. Casey McKinnon scored a team-high 10 points for Wallace.

Columbia 54, Inchelium 41: Dustin Wyborney tossed in a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 boards to lead the Lions (3-8, 2-4) past the visiting Hornets (0-10, 0-5). Inchelium was led by Quentin Holford’s 13 points.

Wellpinit 75, Northport 40: Greg Wynecoop scored 16 points and pulled down 17 rebounds as the Redskins (7-5, 6-0) routed the host Mustangs (10-2, 6-1). Daulton Burke and Frederik Verhaeghe scored 13 points apiece for Northport.

Cusick 64, Curlew 45: Alec Bluff scored 16 points and Ryan Sample added 15 as the Panthers (4-7, 3-2) routed the host Cougars (2-9, 0-5). Jonny Andrews added nine points and 10 boards for Cusick. Doug Hermann scored 15 points and Jazz Brisbane added 12 for Curlew.

Southeast 1B

LaCrosse-Washtucna 49, Tekoa-Oakesdale 39: Justin Wargo scored 11 points and Jed Zimmer added 10 as the Tigercats (5-6, 3-3) took control in the second quarter and beat the visiting Nighthawks (1-9, 0-6). Max Mueller and Joe Gaines combined for 26 points for Tekoa-Oakesdale.

Colton 77, St. John-Endicott 68: Dustin Patchen exploded for 35 points as the Wildcats (9-1, 6-0) topped the visiting Eagles (6-4, 5-1). Jake Straughan added 15 points for Colton. Dakota White led four players in double figures with 18 points for St. John-Endicott.

Garfield-Palouse 59, Rosalia 55: Nathan Cocking had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Vikings (3-7, 3-3) to a win over the host Spartans (6-5, 3-3). Craig Nelson tallied a game-high 26 points for Rosalia, which committed 30 turnovers.

Nonleague

Selkirk 50, Republic 36: Avery Miller scored nine of his game-high 16 points in the decisive first-quarter as the Rangers (5-8) beat the visiting Tigers (1-12) at Ione. Saxon Brown scored 14 points for Republic.
