Sun makes winter go away

Sunshine and temperatures in the 40s are keeping the Inland Northwest on the milder side of winter. But forecasters said there is a pretty good chance of rain or snow Monday afternoon and evening. Temperatures today have already beat the forecasted high of 37. At 2 p.m., it was 42 at Spokane International Airport. Saturday night’s skimming of snow didn’t hold up long to the milder temperatures. Most of the snow had melted by midday. The incoming storm has a 60 to 70 percent chance of bringing snow or rain. Any accumulations should be less than an inch. After Monday, forecasters are expecting more typical temperatures for January with highs in the lower 30s and lows in the lower 20s. A mix of sun, fog and clouds is likely. Normal temperatures are 33 for a high and 23 for a low.
