Chiefs skate past Silvertips

EVERETT – The Spokane Chiefs overcame a rough start with four unanswered goals and breezed to a 5-3 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday in Western Hockey League action.

Spokane (20-13-2-3) has won three straight games, including back-to-back road wins for the second time this season.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Todd Fiddler buried a shot in the net just 4:39 into the game. It was Fiddler’s eighth goal of the season and his fourth in six games with Spokane since being acquired from Prince Albert along with backup goalie Eric Williams.

Williams stopped 27 of 30 shots on the night to pick up his first win with the Chiefs.

Everett (7-25-1-7) answered with an unassisted tally by Ryan Murray just 41 seconds later to knot the score and a power-play goal by Kohl Baumi at the 12:17 mark to take a 2-1 lead.

But Spokane had an answer for Everett’s answer.

Mike Aviani evened the score just 42 seconds later on his fifth goal of the season and Mitch Holmberg’s 16th goal of the season came 26 seconds later to put the Chiefs up 3-2.

Spokane stretched its advantage to 4-2 at the midway point of the second period on a short-handed goal by Blake Gal, his seventh goal of the season.

Marek Kalus made it four straight Chiefs goals when he delivered a power-play score at the 16:06 mark of the second, upping the lead to 5-2. It was Kalus’ 11th goal thus far.
