Dusting of snow possible tonight

Snow is in the forecast for this evening, but forecasters said it is likely to be no more than another dusting like the one that occurred Saturday night. The National Weather Service is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain or snow after 4 p.m. continuing through tonight. Little or no accumulation is expected. The snow level should start out about 2,300 feet in elevation, which is the level of Spokane International Airport, and then drop to 2,100 feet as temperatures cool. The downtown area is about 1,850 feet. Coeur d’Alene is at 2,200 feet. Higher amounts of snow are likely in the mountains of the region with one to three inches expected in areas nearer the Idaho-Montana state line. Rain is expected in lower elevations to the south of Spokane. Today’s high should reach 39 in Spokane with 30 for a low. A cold front associated with the weak storm system should usher in colder air from the northwest during the remainder of the week with highs going down to the lower 30s and lows to the lower 20s. The next chance of precipitation, probably snow, arrives Saturday night and Sunday, although the chances are considered low at this point. At 9 a.m., it was mostly cloudy and 30 degrees at the Spokane airport and 34 in Coeur d’Alene.
