Lake City boys upset top-ranked Post Falls

After being routed by Coeur d’Alene last Friday, Lake City’s chances of beating the top-ranked team in the state were slim.

But the Timberwolves stormed back in the fourth quarter and stunned Post Falls in Inland Empire League boys basketball in Coeur d’Alene.

Lake City’s Kyle Guice and Mitch Bevacqua scored five points apiece in the fourth as the Timberwolves outscored the Trojans 22-8. Bevacqua finished with nine points and eight rebounds for Lake City (7-6, 1-1).

Post Falls (11-1, 1-1) was led by Marcus Colbert, who scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Great Northern League

Pullman 35, Medical Lake 33: Austin Drake and Corey Langerveld scored nine points apiece as the Greyhounds (11-1, 4-0) slid past the host Cardinals (5-7, 2-2). Kendyl Dunn scored a game-high 21 points for Medical Lake.

West Valley 59, Deer Park 49: Jake Love scored 19 points and Jordan Gassman added 13 as the Eagles (9-1, 2-1) topped the host Stags (5-7, 1-3). Blake Starbuck scored 19 points and Uconn Peone added 15 for the Stags.

Clarkston 53, Cheney 50: Drew Adams scored 19 points and grabbed seven points as the Bantams (7-3, 1-2) edged the visiting Blackhawks (6-5, 1-2). Jon Miller and Eric Igbinoba scored 13 points apiece for Cheney.

Northeast A

Lakeside 59, Newport 57: Conner Moffatt made a layin with 6 seconds left to break a tie and give the Eagles (7-7, 2-2) a win over the Grizzlies (8-5, 2-2) in Nine Mile Falls. Moffatt finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds for Lakeside. Jake Wiley led Newport with 30 points.

Chewelah 63, Riverside 37: Derek Smith led three players in double figures with 15 points and the Cougars (11-3, 3-1) routed the host Rams (4-10, 0-4). Tyler Monasmith scored 14 points and Ben Johnstone added 12 for Chewelah. Jordan Woods scored a team-high 13 points for Riverside.

Freeman 46, Colville 36: Mitch Vander Linden scored 14 points and Kellen Miller added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Scotties (8-6, 3-1) beat the visiting Indians (8-7, 2-2). Lukyn Holling and Alex Pond scored nine points each for Colville.

Bi-County 2B

Reardan 81, Kettle Falls 38: Trevor Peone scored 26 of his game-high 34 points in the first half – including 17 in the first quarter – as the Indians (6-6. 5-3) whipped the visiting Bulldogs (2-10, 0-8). Peone connected on five 3-pointers. Sophomore Conner McKern led Kettle Falls with 14 points.

Davenport 56, Liberty 22: Josh Likkel scored 17 points, Wyatt Evers scored 16 and Cole Evers added six points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists as the Gorillas (8-3, 5-3) raced past the visiting Lancers (4-7, 2-6).

Davenport made 24 of 47 shots from the field.

Zack Kunkel led Liberty with eight points.

Panorama

Cusick 68, Selkirk 48: Alec Bluff scored 25 points and Ryan Sample added 17 as the Panthers (5-7, 4-2) routed the host Rangers (5-9, 4-3) at Ione. Trevor Grant, Avery Miller and Nick Gardner combined for 37 points for Selkirk.

Central Wash. 2B

Lake Roosevelt 90, Manson 40: The Raiders shot 70 percent from the floor and whipped Manson in Coulee Dam. Ty Egbert, Keith Rosenbaum and Jesse Adkins combined for 64 points for Lake Roosevelt.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 72, Sandpoint 21: The Vikings (8-3) jumped ahead early and thoroughly dominated the visiting Bulldogs (3-9). Devon Loy scored 19 points and Joe Roletto added 12 for Coeur d’Alene. The Bulldogs were led by Jackson Olin’s eight points.

Lewiston 74, Lakeland 60: Randon Fuentes tossed in 23 points as the Bengals (6-7) beat the Hawks (3-8) in Rathdrum. Eric Cooper scored 23 points on 7-of-9 shooting to lead Lakeland.

Kellogg 58, Wallace 22: Taylor Hulstrom and Ryan Beggerly combined for 21 points as the Wildcats (10-1) routed the visiting Miners (3-6).

Kellogg outscored Wallace 18-3 in the second quarter to take a 24-point halftime lead.

St. Maries 71, Orofino 48: Austin Linnemeyer scored 28 points and Rhett Ryle added 18 as the Lumberjacks (5-1) routed the host Maniacs.

St. Maries outscored Orofino 26-11 in the first and led by 19 points at halftime.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 55, Rosalia 53: Connor O’Neill made all seven of his field goals and finished with 17 points as the Broncos (6-6) edged the visiting Spartans (6-6).

Rosalia’s 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Republic 45, Curlew 34: Saxon Brown scored 18 points to lead the Tigers (2-12) past the host Cougars (2-10).

Republic trailed by two points at halftime, but outscored Curlew 18-10 in the third to take control.

Jamie Zerck had game highs of 13 points and 18 rebounds for the Cougars.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 65, Kootenai 35: Bryan Smith had 14 points, five steals and five assists as the Panthers (7-5) routed the visiting Warriors (4-5).

John Simon added 12 points and Christian Pedersen added 10 for Coeur d’Alene Charter.

Wilbur-Creston 63, Wilson Creek 8: The Wildcats (5-5) made 29 of 44 field goals and smashed host Wilson Creek. Four players reached double figures for Wilbur-Creston.
