Connick’s ‘Clear Day’ is over all too soon

From Wire Reports

Harry Connick Jr.’s latest Broadway venture is ending earlier than he hoped.

Producers of “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever” said Thursday that the musical will play its final performance on Jan. 29.

When it closes, it will have played 29 preview and 57 regular performances.

The production, with songs by Burton Lane and Alan Jay Lerner, made its debut on Broadway in 1965 and was adapted into a 1970 film starring Barbra Streisand and Yves Montand.

The musical got mostly poor reviews when it opened last month, leaving reviewers confused. Last week, it took in $584,711 at the box office, or only about 42 percent of its potential.

Connick’s last time on Broadway was in a concert show. He also starred in “The Pajama Game.”

Van Halen gives guitars to schools

Rocker Eddie Van Halen has donated 75 electric guitars to Los Angeles-area high schools as a way to get kids interested in music.

Tricia Steel of the Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation said the Van Halen lead guitarist came with the brand-new guitars this week, and wanted them used in schools and not sold.

The nonprofit Los Angeles foundation has distributed the guitars to seven schools serving mostly low-income students that needed them to replace broken instruments or build music enrollment.

Halle Berry ready for third marriage

Halle Berry is reportedly engaged to French actor Olivier Martinez, whom she met while filming the movie “Dark Tide,” a thriller slated for release this year.

The engagement took place over the holidays, a source told Us Weekly, which broke the news.

Berry, 45, and Martinez, 46, met during “Dark Tide” production in mid-2010, shortly after Berry’s breakup with Gabriel Aubry, and went public as a couple in October of that year. Berry has a 3-year-old daughter, Nahla, from her relationship with Aubry.

It will be a third marriage for Berry, who was previously wed to R&B singer Eric Benet and then baseball player David Justice. She’s been unmarried since the divorce from Justice was finalized in 2005, though she dated Aubry for five years.
