Mead puts a scare into CV

Mead gave the No. 1-ranked Central Valley Bears their toughest basketball game to date on Friday.

The visiting Panthers took a 48-43 lead into the fourth quarter before the Bears pulled away for a 70-60 victory as Greater Spokane League teams hit the halfway mark.

CV (11-0 overall, 9-0 league) had too much balance for the Panthers (5-6, 5-4). Senior wing Brooke Gallaway led the way with 23 points, four steals and four rebounds. She scored 19 points in the second half. Teammates and senior guards Katie Estey and Sydney Emory added 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Jade Redmon scored a game-high 24 points for Mead. Jasmin Parker had eight rebounds.

Lewis and Clark 58, Ferris 39: The visiting Saxons (4-7, 2-7) rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit to pull within six points in the third quarter, but the Tigers (7-4, 7-2) clamped down defensively in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers limited Ferris to just two points in the final period.

Nakia Arquette led LC with 23 points, 14 rebounds and four blocked shots. Julie Moravec added 14 points.

Cassidy Phillips led Ferris with 17 points.

Gonzaga Prep 64, North Central 39: The Bullpups (9-2, 7-2) were too much for the Indians (2-9, 2-7) in the first and third quarters.

G-Prep outscored NC 13-4 in the first and 25-10 in the third.

Lindsay Stockton led the Bullpups with 21 points. Hailey Markham-Patti and Brianna King had 12 each for NC.

Shadle Park 59, Mt. Spokane 48: The visiting Highlanders (7-5, 6-4) played better defense and committed fewer turnovers to stop the Wildcats.

The Highlanders outscored Mt. Spokane 17-7 in the decisive fourth period.

Kaycee Hert led Shadle with 17 points and Aleisha Hathaway had 11. Alyssa Lloyd led the Wildcats with 12.

University 61, Rogers 40: Several supporting players came up big for the Titans (8-3, 6-3) at home.

McKenzie Peterson scored all seven of her points in the first quarter as U-Hi started fast. Shelby Rotchford made 3 of 3 3-pointers and finished with 11 points and Morgan Hawley had 10.

Talia Felice and Jasmin Andrews had 12 each for the Pirates (1-11, 0-10).
