Announced Quarterback Denard Robinson is staying at Michigan for his senior season. After flirting with the possibility of declaring for the 2012 NFL draft, the Wolverines star announced Friday that he will return. Robinson passed for 2,173 yards and 20 touchdowns last season and rushed for 1,176 yards and 16 touchdowns.

• Oregon running back Kenjon Barner (939 yards rushing, 11 TDs last season) is returning for his senior season.

• Georgia coach Mark Richt said linebacker Jarvis Jones and quarterbacks Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason are returning for their senior seasons.

• Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson has decided to come back for his senior season with the Razorbacks.

Hired First-year Kansas coach Charlie Weis added some star power to his coaching staff. Veteran NFL and college coach Dave Campo was hired as the Jayhawks’ new defensive coordinator. Ron Powlus, who served as Weis’ quarterbacks coach at Notre Dame, will take over the same role at Kansas. Tim Grunhard, who played for Notre Dame before an 11-year career with the Kansas City Chiefs, will coach the offensive line. Former Akron coach and Irish assistant Rob Ianello will coach the Jayhawks’ wide receivers and coordinate recruiting.

• New Penn State coach Bill O’Brien is turning his defense over to a veteran, well-traveled assistant with a national title on his resume. Ted Roof was officially tabbed the Nittany Lions’ defensive coordinator, leaving Central Florida a month after taking the same position with the Knights. Roof was named Central Florida’s defensive coordinator Dec. 8 after leaving Auburn following the regular season. He previously spent three seasons as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator, including the 2010 national championship season.

• Tennessee hired Alabama assistant head coach Sal Sunseri to be its next defensive coordinator, Volunteers coach Derek Dooley announced. Sunseri replaces Justin Wilcox, who left Jan. 2 to join the staff at Washington.

Honored The NCAA will honor six former athletes, including Sean Payton, David Robinson and Tim Brown, as Silver Anniversary Award winners for their contributions to intercol- legiate athletics. Kevin Johnson, Doris Burke and Amy Perko also will be recognized during the 2012 Honors Celebration.

Selected The Atlanta Beat selected UCLA forward Sydney Leroux with the top pick in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft. Sky Blue FC took Notre Dame forward Melissa Henderson with the second pick, and the Boston Breakers selected University of San Diego forward Stephanie Ochs third.
