Snow showers have blanketed most of Western Washington over the weekend, snarling traffic in Seattle and its suburbs and stranding buses on freeway ramps.

More snow showers are predicted for the West Side through midweek, with the heaviest load of snow predicted by Wednesday.

The forecast suggests that the Inland Northwest will get its first heavy snowfall of the winter this week. A winter storm watch is in effect from Tuesday evening through Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicted a 20 percent chance of snow in Spokane today and a 40 percent chance of snow in Coeur d’Alene. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. Snow showers could bring 2 to 5 inches of snow to North Idaho tonight.

Light snow accumulations are expected Tuesday in the Inland Northwest, with the possibility of heavy snowfall from Tuesday night through Wednesday night in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. The chance of snow is near 100 percent through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to warm into the mid-30s by Thursday afternoon, which could bring rain mixed with snow.
