Road-weary Eagles fall

SEATTLE – The Eagles finally hit the wall.

Eastern Washington took a 52-51 lead early in the second half and was within one with 10 minutes to play, but it was all Seattle after that as the Redhawks rolled over the Eagles 91-78 in a nonconference men’s basketball game Monday at KeyArena.

The game concluded a stretch of three road games in five nights for the Eagles (9-10), who went 1-2.

The Redhawks (4-12) snapped a four-game losing streak by shooting a season-high 55 percent.

“It was a good time for them to play us at home, with us ending our road swing,” said Eastern coach Jim Hayford.

“If there’s one good side in this loss, it’s that it didn’t affect us in the conference standings,” he added.

Aaron Broussard and Sterling Carter combined for 60 points for Seattle, which used a late 12-0 run to pull away. Colin Chiverton had his third-straight 20-point performance – and ninth of the season – to equal his career high with 26 for the Eagles.

“Chiverton had 26 points in 26 minutes so we have him kind of rolling now,” Hayford said.

Ranked second in NCAA Division I with an average of 9.7 3-pointers per game, Eastern hit 13 in 40 attempts.

“I think 78 points was enough to win against Seattle,” said Hayford. “It just came down to our inability to defend.”
