Whitestone Winery gets a taste of downtown

Whitestone Winery is moving its tasting room into the heart of downtown.

By mid-February, the family winery will relocate from its Cedar Street home to 10 N. Post Street, Suite 8.

“We love our current location but we just wanted to get more into the heart of downtown. We feel that there is such energy down there. Post Street has just become a thoroughfare for walkers downtown … and when we saw the space come open, we thought we had to pounce on it,” winemaker Michael Haig said.

The new tasting room is scheduled to open Feb. 11. They’ll be right next door to the Cougar Crest Winery tasting room.

For the first month, oenophiles will be able to enjoy free appetizers with the wines during happy hour, 4 to 6 p.m. The tasting room will be open Monday through Saturday noon until 7 p.m.

The Whitestone Winery tasting room will be open in time for ValenWine Weekend, Feb. 11 and 12, when Spokane Winery Association members pair wines with chocolates and desserts for the Valentine’s Day holiday.

Whitestone Winery recently had all of its wines rated by Wine Advocate, says Haig. Each of the wines scored in the 90s.

Signature Tastes of Garland Avenue

Garland Avenue businesses featured in the new cookbook “Signature Tastes of Spokane” will host a book signing with authors on Friday.

Authors Steven W. Siler and Nicole L. Manganaro will be at Tinman Gallery, 811 W. Garland Ave., to sign and sell copies of the cookbook. It is $22.

Owners of Garland businesses Celebrations Bakery, Garland Sandwich Shoppe and Ferguson’s will make recipes featured in the cookbook. Free samples will be served at the Tinman Gallery during the book signing. Bon Bon and the Garland Drinkery will have specials and Glamarita will stay open late.

The Blue Door Theatre has an improv comedy show at 8 p.m. with special ticket prices of $5 each.
