The receiver accepted an offer to be a player and will have an ownership stake in the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League. Owens, 38, didn’t get any NFL offers to play last season after surgery on his left knee.

Settled The $40,000 bail that a Dallas Mavericks assistant coach posted can be used to clear up a Las Vegas casino debt that led to his arrest in Los Angeles County, a prosecutor said. Darrell Armstrong, 43, can direct that the money be used to satisfy $37,500 in casino markers, or IOUs, claimed by Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, said Samuel Bateman, chief deputy Clark County district attorney in charge of the bad-check unit.

Arrested A Ukrainian hockey coach accused of committing sexual acts with a 14-year-old boy has been arrested, federal investigators say. Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Philadelphia said Ivan Pravilov was arrested on charges of traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts with a minor. Pravilov, 48, committed sexual acts with a boy visiting in the United States and attending hockey clinics, according to a criminal complaint.

• Florida defensive tackle Leon Orr was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Orr was cited Jan. 10 after a University Police Department officer searched his dorm room. Orr admitted to owning the marijuana, pipe and papers that were found by the officer.

Ratified A Los Angeles judge ratified a binding agreement between outgoing Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his former wife Jamie McCourt in their divorce case. Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon signed off on the settlement reached in November that calls for Frank McCourt to pay his ex-wife $131 million by the end of April.

Declining The health of Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter has taken a turn for the worse. The 57-year-old, diagnosed in May with a malignant brain tumor, received results of his latest MRI exam Thursday, according to the online journal of his daughter, Kimmy Bloemers. “There are now several new spots/tumors on my dad’s brain,” she wrote. Last week, she wrote, Carter fell at a doctor’s appointment and completely tore a rotator cuff.

Retiring Veteran downhill racer Didier Cuche says he’s retiring at the end of the season. The 37-year-old Swiss great won the season-long World Cup downhill title in four of the past five seasons. He became the oldest men’s world champion in 2009 when taking gold in super-G at age 34.
