EWU women soar past PSU

PORTLAND – The Eastern Washington women’s basketball team closed the game on a 20-7 run and took down defending Big Sky Conference regular-season champion Portland State 75-67 Saturday at the Stott Center.

After scoring just 28 points on 32 percent shooting in the first half, the Eagles put up 48 points on a 58 percent shooting in the second half.

Junior Carrie Ojeda shot 9 of 14 from the floor and finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Three other EWU players scored in double figures, including Chene Cooper (15), Brianne Ryan (15) and Melissa Williams (12).

The Eagles improved to 11-9 overall and 5-2 in the BSC. The Vikings fell to 11-7 and 3-3 in conference games.

EWU plays at Montana on Thursday and at Montana State on Saturday.
