California Bears fend off Cougs

Layshia Clarendon scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half as California beat Washington State 60-55 in Berkeley, Calif., on Sunday for its sixth straight win.

Gennifer Brandon had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Talia Caldwell had 12 points for Cal (15-5, 5-2), the second-place team in the Pac-12. The Golden Bears next face conference leader, No. 4 Stanford on Saturday.

Carly Noyes and Sage Romberg scored 10 points apiece for the Cougars (9-10, 3-4), who have lost four in a row.

Dream Duals

Mead (4A), University (3A), East Valley (2A) , Lakeside (1A) and Warden (girls) won team titles in the modified format at the annual Dream Duals wrestling meet at East Valley on Saturday.

Weather had its way with the meet, with 13 teams dropping out of the event.
