Hired The St. Louis Rams have hired Brian Schottenheimer as their new offensive coordinator and Gregg Williams will run the defense. New Rams coach Jeff Fisher announced the staff additions Monday. Schottenheimer spent the past six seasons in the same position with the New York Jets. Williams spent the past three years as defensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. The Rams haven’t had a winning season since 2003, and they had the NFL’s worst offense last season. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels recently left to return to the Patriots. Fired Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo is taking over the Saints’ defense.

• Tennessee coach Mike Munchak has hired a couple new assistants, adding another former Houston Oilers’ teammate and someone to focus on helping the Titans’ defense rush the quarterback better. Former Washington State standout Keith Millard fills a new spot on staff, a position Munchak said he thought about adding a year ago. Millard was co-defensive line coach with Tampa Bay in 2011. Steve Brown will be the assistant secondary coach. He spent the past nine years at the University of Kentucky with four as defensive coordinator.

• The Washington Redskins have announced the hiring of Raheem Morris as a defensive backs coach. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach joined coach Mike Shanahan’s staff in Mobile, Ala., for this week’s Senior Bowl. Also, Ike Hilliard was hired to be the new receivers coach for the Redskins. The Redskins also announced that Bob Slowik will move to linebackers coach after working with the secondary for the last two seasons.

Ailing Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose says his sprained left big toe might bother him the rest of the season. It didn’t keep him out of Monday night’s game, though. The reigning NBA MVP was back in the lineup for Chicago against the New Jersey Nets after missing the previous four games, but Bulls forward Luol Deng sat out with a sprained left wrist. Besides Deng, the Bulls were also without Taj Gibson (sprained left ankle). Joakim Noah (sprained left ankle) returned to the lineup after missing a game.

Signed Shortstop Omar Vizquel and the Toronto Blue Jays agreed to terms on a one-year contract. Vizquel’s agent, Adam Katz, declined to provide further details, such as whether Vizquel would be on a major league or minor league deal. The veteran, who turns 45 on April 24, would be headed into his 24th major league season if he makes the team. Vizquel has 11 Gold Gloves at shortstop and provided a positive clubhouse influence for the Chicago White Sox the past two seasons and a reliable option off the bench. Vizquel appeared in 58 games last year, batting .251 with eight RBIs and seven doubles. He is a career .272 hitter in 2,908 games.

• The Minnesota Lynx have re-signed 41-year-old center Taj McWilliams-Franklin. The Lynx announced the deal, ensuring that their emotional leader will return to help them defend their WNBA championship. McWilliams-Franklin averaged 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds last year.
