Two female inmates escaped from the Geiger Corrections Center on Tuesday night, but were captured within an hour by law enforcement officers from several area agencies.
Kathleen Stockton, 49, and Rachel A. Banks, 25, escaped the corrections center at about 7:20 p.m. by scaling a security fence, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities were alerted to the escapes when one of the women, whose hand and face were bloodied and who was wearing only one shoe, asked for a ride at the Airway Express on Geiger Boulevard, according the Sheriff’s Office statement. She reportedly told employees that she had “jumped the fence” at the corrections center.
Both women were injured when they used a blanket to climb over the razor-wire fence, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The women were taken to a Spokane hospital for treatment before being booked into the Spokane County Jail.
Stockton was serving time for felony drug possession. Banks was arrested earlier this month on charges of residential burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Both now face felony charges in the escape.
Two others, a man and a woman, were questioned for possibly helping in the escape.
