Central Valley boys catch fire in fourth quarter
The Mt. Spokane Wildcats had the Greater Spokane League boys basketball-leading Central Valley Bears’ attention through three quarters Tuesday.
Then the Bears muffled the Wildcats in the fourth quarter. Central Valley held Mt. Spokane to one point while putting up 26 as CV pulled away 64-37.
CV senior Gaven Deyarmin scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the fourth. Deyarmin made 7 of 9 shots from the field and 5 of 5 free throws. He also had five assists. The Bears (11-3 overall, 10-2 league) also got solid contributions from Anthony Brommer and Eli Wiecking. Brommer had 13 points and seven rebounds and Wiecking chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Stu Stiles led Mt. Spokane (3-11, 2-10) with 14 points.
Mead 46, Rogers 38: The Panthers (2-12, 2-10) outscored the visiting Pirates (4-9, 3-9) 16-4 in the decisive third period.
Forrest Baker led Mead with 15 points. Sophomore Thomas Kautzman had 13 and eight rebounds and Gunnar Kayser chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.
Steve Delvecchio led Rogers with 17 points.
University 57, Lewis and Clark 49: The Titans (11-3, 9-3) built a nine-point lead in the first half and that held up in the final two quarters at U-Hi.
Zane McDonald led the Titans with 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Zech Martin had 14 points and Brett Bailey had 10 rebounds.
Austin Damon led LC (9-5, 7-5) with 15 points and seven rebounds, Tanner Johnson had 11 points and Jeff Livingston added 10.
Gonzaga Prep 56, Shadle Park 52: With the Highlanders (9-5, 7-5) trailing by three points with 10 seconds remaining, the Bullpups’ Ryan Gregory got a steal to secure the win at Shadle.
Gregory was fouled with 4 seconds to go and hit a free throw for the final margin for G-Prep (9-5, 9-3). He finished with a game-high 14 points. Skyler Kelley led Shadle with 13.
Ferris 65, North Central 50: The Saxons (10-4, 8-4) outscored the visiting Indians (3-11, 3-9) 13-4 in the second quarter to open a cushion they wouldn’t relinquish.
Chase Haack led Ferris with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Nathan Galgalo had 17. He made 5 of 5 3-pointers. Jamil Foster led NC with 15 and Chase McDuffie had 14 and six assists.
