Obituary: Mitchell, Frank E.

Age 85

MITCHELL, Frank E.
(Age 85)

Was born in Spokane, WA, on April 8, 1926.

He peacefully entered eternal rest on January 22, 2012.

He was a lifelong Spokane native and was preceded in death by his precious wife, Velma, on October 17, 1989.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Marie Mitchell, of Queen Creek, AZ; his daughter, Nancy Mitchell, of Spokane; and son, Roger Mitchell, of Spokane.

He thoroughly enjoyed being a proud and loving grandpa to four grandchildren, Tobi Carl, Dennis Mitchell, Darrin Mitchell, and Dru Hoff.

He was quite pleased and honored to be a great-grandpa to five beautiful and vivacious great-grandchildren.

He began his lifelong career, as did his Grandpa, Frank Dixon, his Dad, John Mitchell, as well as his younger brother, Johnny Mitchell, with Burlington (Great Northern) Railroad in the Winter of ‘49-‘50, the second worst recorded winter of Spokane history, where he began shoveling snow.

He continued his career, while studying hard at night school, to become an office supervisor at Burlington Northern, where he retired in 1983.

He was a beloved husband, dad, and grandpa.

He enjoyed his family and family outings of camping and spending time with family on the weekends helping relatives out with farming and harvesting.

There was wonderful, warm fellowship over a large country kitchen table complete with a delicious farm fresh meal presented by two sisters, Velma, and her sister, Lilly, all prepared while chit-chatting happily about kids!

Oh, and the howls of infectious laughter, especially by a hard-working, weather-worn, brilliant, blue-eyed Uncle August, as he weaved together the most funniest and mostly true stories!

Frank enjoyed taking care of his yard.

He loved old cars and was always his daughter’s “Superhero” mechanic who could magically right wrongs of protesting cars.

Frank and Velma were always first to contribute what little they had to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Our Dad and Grandpa will be dearly missed, but fond memories of him, and loved ones preceding him in death, will live on in our hearts and delightful memories will be passed on, along with new ones, for several generations to come.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 10 AM at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, 211 N. Government Way, Spokane.

Arrangements have been entrusted to HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. Monroe, Spokane.
