Mt. Spokane girls make some school history with win

It’s been a long time coming but the Mt. Spokane girls basketball team finally broke through against its district rival.

The Wildcats beat the Mead Panthers for the first time in school history, posting a 60-57 win at home Friday in Greater Spokane League action.

Three Mt. Spokane players combined to make 8 of 9 free throws in the final period. Brooke Reilly led the Wildcats (5-10 overall, 4-9 league) with 17 points, all coming in the second half. She also had eight rebounds and two steals.

Jade Redmon led Mead (7-8, 7-6) with 25 points.

Gonzaga Prep 51, University 41: Bounced out of a second-place tie with the Titans (11-4, 9-4) earlier in the week, the Bullpups (11-4, 9-4) moved back into a tie at home.

Cassie Anderson had 13 points and four steals and Sarah Barnes added 10 points for G-Prep. Otiona Gildon had 11 rebounds.

Kayleigh Valley and Hallie Gennett each had 12 points for U-Hi.

Shadle Park 66, Ferris 56: The Highlanders (9-6, 8-5) used a 13-6 margin in the third quarter to open a cushion the Saxons (5-10, 3-10) couldn’t overcome at Ferris.

Aleisha Hathaway led balanced Shadle with 16 points and six rebounds. Shadle shot 50 percent from the field to the Saxons’ 27 percent.

Brittney Johnson led Ferris with 15 points and Abby Liss added 11.

Central Valley 67, North Central 31: The No. 1-ranked and undefeated Bears (15-0, 13-0) jumped on the Indians (4-11, 4-9) early and the game was over early at NC.

CV opened a 20-3 lead after the first quarter and led 43-10 at halftime.

Four players reached double-figure scoring for CV. Brooke Gallaway and Chantelle Fitting each had 15, Katie Estey had 11 and Madison Hovren chipped in 10.

Lewis and Clark 65, Rogers 34: The Tigers (8-7, 8-5) overwhelming the visiting Pirates (1-14, 0-13) quickly, opening a 22-4 lead after the first quarter.

Then LC outscored Rogers 26-7 in the third.

Nakia Arquette led LC with 15 points and four steals while Joelle Tampien, Emma Keenan and Taylor Howlett each had 10.

Jasmin Andrews led Rogers with 18 points.
