The Spokane Police Department verified Sunday that the man hit by a car at Market Avenue and Providence Street at 2 a.m. Saturday has died of his injuries. He has been identified as Dennis Burgess.

Wayne Ueda, Burgess’ brother-in-law, said Burgess was a 1983 graduate of Rogers High School and worked as a carpenter and landscaper. Burgess, 47, is survived by three sons, a sister, two brothers, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Burgess was found Saturday after someone called police to report finding a person lying the road. He was unconscious when police arrived, according to a Spokane Police Department press release. Shortly afterward, a Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a speeding car at Hawthorne Road and Market that appeared to have been involved in an accident.

The driver, 21-year-old Hannah K. Hahn, was booked into the Spokane County Jail for vehicular assault. Police have not yet said if Hahn will be facing additional charges due to Burgess’ death.

I will pray for his loved ones to find peace and meaning during this, their time of profound grief.

Also, as tempting as it is to bring other issues into this forum let’s all do our level best in our postings to respect the loved ones of this, our fellow human being who is gone, during their time of grief.
