Donald Wesley
(1923-2012)

Five days after the death of his wife of 64 years, lifelong Mount Hope resident Donald Cornwall passed away on January 27, 2012.

He was born on May 27, 1923 in Mount Hope, Washington to John Wesley and Merle Cornwall.

He attended Harp School, a one room country school in the Mount Hope area for one year.

After the consolidation of the country schools in 1930, he attended the school in Fairfield.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1942.

After one semester at Washington State College (now Washington State University), he enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II.

From 1943 to 1945 he was a private in the infantry.

He was involved in combat on Mindanao in the Philippines.

After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Mount Hope.

He married Bernice Brown on January 31, 1948.

His farming career had a span of 60 years; the first half in partnership with his brother Neal and his father, the second half in partnership with his sons.

In later years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, summers at their cabin at Bayview on Lake Pend Oreille and winters in La Quinta, California.

He is preceded in death by his brother Neal Cornwall and his wife Bernice Cornwall.

He is survived by his children, Kristine Cornwall, James Cornwall and David Cornwall; daughter in-law Jody Cornwall; grandson Scott Cornwall and granddaughter Mikayla Cornwall.

A service will be held at the Mount Hope Community Church on Friday, February 3, 2012 at 1 P.M. A burial will follow immediately at the Mount Hope Cemetery.

A gathering at the Harvest Moon in Rockford will follow.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Mount Hope Cemetery Association, 21331 South Arnold Road, Fairfield, Washington 99012.

Donald will be missed by his many friends and family.
