Obituary: Malicki, Lawrence E.

September 28, 1934 - June 24, 2012
Our dearly loved husband and great Father, Lawrence “Larry” Edward Malicki passed away early Sunday morning, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a man of incredible strength.
He courageously battled several health issues in the past 10 years and pulled through each one.
This time, however, his body gave out after fighting many surgery complications for the last four months.
He continued to tell his family “I get better” right up to the end.
Larry was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Stanley W. Malicki and Mary Kobak Malicki.
He graduated from St. Stanislaus High School in June 1952 and enlisted in the Air Force on January 14, 1953.
His first assignment was at Fairchild Air Force Base.
And in Spokane he met the love of his life, JoAnn.
They continued to move as needed for his career and made it back to Fairchild in 1972.
In 1974, they moved to Spokane for good with Larry retiring from the Air Force in 1985.
In the Air Force, his first specialty (job) was Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Technician, and he prided himself on a job well done.

years, he moved to Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent and then Aircraft Maintenance Manager.
His last duty assignment was the 92nd BMW - Strategic Air Command, Fairchild AFB.
He received many awards and decorations - too many to list here.
Larry was a die-hard Chief’s hockey fan, a season ticket holder since the “Boone Street Barn” days.
We are sure they will miss his “encouraging” words - especially to the referees!
Being from Cleveland, he was a huge Cleveland Browns and Indians fan.
He followed both teams since childhood.
Another passion was trolling for fish.
He loved to be out on the boat with his son casting lines and waiting for those nibbles.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, JoAnn White Malicki.
Larry and JoAnn were married in Spokane on April 17, 1953 after meeting on a blind date Valentine’s Day that same year.
Larry is also survived by his daughter, Angie Maxwell and son, David Malicki and wife Paula and his only grandchild Gregory, his brother Ray Malicki and wife Joan of Berwyn, PA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would be remiss if we didn’t also list Gwetchen - Dad’s little dog who he loved dearly.
Larry will be remembered at a funeral Mass Saturday, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 2120 E. First Ave in Spokane.
Interment with military honors will be held at Fairmount Cemetery, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave. on Sunday, July 1st at noon.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Larry’s name to St. Ann’s Parish.
Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Dan Coulston and the Deaconess ICU nurses.Their thoughtful and compassionate care of Dad through this four month journey was incredible and always loving.
In addition, the family would like to thank Dad’s hockey buddy, Doug Jasmer, for his continued support of Dad and his passion for hockey.
We also wish to thank all of our friends and family who have supported us through these last few months.
We will continue to move forward as Dad would have wanted.
We will miss him very much.
