Obituary: Miller, Marian F. (Peterson)

MILLER, Marian F. (Peterson)
(Age 93)

Passed away June 27th, 2012.

Her husband of 63 years, Arnold, passed away in 2005.

She was born in Opportunity, Washington to Harvey and May Peterson on May 6, 1919, one of nine children.

A year later her family moved to McCall, Idaho.

Marian was four when her mother died.

The children returned to Opportunity where their loving grandparents and Aunt Lettie helped raise them.

Marian attended Opportunity Grade school and West Valley High School graduating in 1937.

She attended business school and worked at the Federal Land Bank in Spokane.

It was through a co-worker that she met her husband Arnold.

They married January 15, 1942 and worked in Seattle a short time before settling in Spokane to raise a family.

Marian was a charter member of St.Stephen’s Episcopal Church (1957) where she was active in St. Clements Library Guild, teaching Sunday school and chairman of the annual church bazaar for several years.

She was involved in her children’s activities including Brownies, Girl Scouts and Job’s Daughters.
Marian loved to play bridge, quilt, walk, travel, do activities with her grandchildren and spend time at the Pend Oreille River.

When bridge partners became hard to find she became the master at putting jigsaw puzzles together at Rockwood Retirement Community where she lived since 1994.

She always wanted to be mentally, physically, and socially active.

Her determination and love of walking helped her overcome many serious health issues in her later years, always fighting her way back to independent living.
Marian is survived by two children, John (Sandy) of Spokane and Sue of Seattle; two grandchildren, Beth of Spokane and Greg (Rebekah) of Bothell Washington; and three great-grandchildren Brandon, Cameron, and Faith.

She has one remaining sibling, Mildred Crable of Spokane.
Memorial Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Church at 57th and Perry on Friday, July 6th, 2012 at 1:00pm and at Rockwood South Retirement Community on Saturday, July 7th, 2012 at 2:00PM.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Library Fund (5720 S. Perry St., Spokane, 99223), Hospice of Spokane (PO Box 2215, Spokane, 99210) or to an organization of your choice.
