Daley claims Senior Players Championship

Golf: Joe Daley won the Senior Players Championship on Sunday for his first Champions Tour title, closing with a 2-under 68 for a two-stroke victory over Tom Lehman.

The 51-year-old Daley, winless in his brief PGA Tour career, had a 14-under 266 total at Fox Chapel. He earned $405,000 and full Champions Tour status for a calendar year.

Lehman finished with a 69. Olin Browne was third at 11 under after a 65. Mark Calcavecchia, tied with Daley for the third-round lead, had a 72 to match 2011 winner Fred Couples at 10 under. Couples finished with a 71.

• Ai Miyazato wins NW Arkansas title: Ai Miyazato shot a 6-under 65 to overcome a five-shot deficit and win the NW Arkansas Championship for her second LPGA Tour victory of the year.

The Japanese star made a 5-foot birdie putt on No. 18 to reach 12 under for the tournament.

Americans top Brazil in World Cup semis

Softball: Rookie Amanda Chidester belted a grand slam for her first international hit, Chelsea Thomas allowed two hits in a five-inning shutout and the U.S. beat Brazil 9-0 in Oklahoma City.

The Americans (5-0) will play in the championship game tonight against Australia (4-1), a 4-0 winner over the Netherlands.

Blake tops Bolt again; wins 200 meters

Olympic sports: Yohan Blake made it 2 for 2 against Usain Bolt, winning the 200 meters at the Jamaican Olympic trials in Kingston, Jamaica, in 19.80 seconds to edge the world-record holder by 0.03 seconds.

Blake also beat Bolt in the 100 meters by running a 9.75.

• Horton heading back to Olympics: Two-time Beijing medalist, Jonathan Horton, was picked for the U.S. men’s gymnastics team for the London Games, joined by Jake Dalton and Sam Mikulak. Danell Leyva and reigning national champion John Orozco automatically qualified for the five-man squad after the conclusion of Olympic trials Saturday night. Chris Brooks, Steven Legendre and Alex Naddour are the alternates.

• Douglas leads women’s gymnastics squad: Gabby Douglas locked up the lone guaranteed spot available by winning the Olympic trials in San Jose, Calif. Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross were then chosen by a three-person committee to join her in London.

Nastia Liukin’s bid to return to the Olympics ended after she struggled to get through her bars routine during the final night of the U.S. trials.

• U.S. women win Grand Prix title: The Olympics-bound U.S. women’s volleyball team won its third straight title in the international FIVB World Grand Prix with a 26-24, 25-21 27-25 sweep of China in three sets in Ningbo, China.

Enders breaks barrier with Pro Stock win

Miscellany: Erica Enders became the first female driver to win an NHRA Pro Stock race, beating four-time series champion Greg Anderson in the final of the Route 66 NHRA Nationals in Joliet, Ill. Enders drove her Chevy Cobalt to a pass of 6.627 seconds at 207.40 mph, while Anderson had a 6.641 at 208.36 in a Chevy Camaro.

• Howard meets with Orlando GM: According to team spokesman Joel Glass, new Orlando Magic general manager Rob Hennigan has met face-to-face with Dwight Howard, but the team isn’t commenting on what was discussed.

Yahoo Sports and ESPN.com have reported that Howard reissued a preseason trade request in that meeting and listed the Brooklyn Nets as his preferred destination.

• Jordan’s son arrested in Omaha: Central Florida basketball player Marcus Jordan, the son of retired NBA great Michael Jordan, was arrested in Omaha, Neb., early Sunday morning following a disturbance, stemming from an argument with two women outside an Embassy Suites.

Jordan was booked at the Douglas County Department of Corrections for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing. He had been released by Sunday night.

Sky rally past Dream; end four-game skid

WNBA: Sylvia Fowles scored 21 points , including two go-ahead free throws with 33 seconds to play, and Chicago rallied from a 14-point deficit and snapped a four-game losing streak with a 71-69 victory over Atlanta in Rosemont, Ill.

Courtney Vandersloot chipped in eight points, four assists and two rebounds for Chicago.
