Obituary: Reames, Vern M.
Passed away June 29, 2012. Vern splashed into this world on April 17th, 1941 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, Washington. He lived nearly his entire life in Chattaroy, where he graduated in 1959 from Riverside School. Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, he went on to graduate from North Idaho College with a degree in engineering. Vern was then drafted, in 1962, into the Army and served two years in the 579th Ordnance Company in Germany, one of the three Pershing Missile Battalions there. He returned safely home to marry the love of his life, Sharon Jacobs, on December 11, 1965. He rejoiced at the birth of his first child, a daughter, Darla Fay, on November 10th, 1966, and three years later was blessed with a son, Daryl Victor, born on August 7th, 1969. Vern owned and operated the Reames Sawmill until 1985. He then worked for the Washington Department of Transportation until his retirement at 64 years old. Vern loved what he did, whether pulling green chain in the mill or perched upon a Washington stare snowplow, plowing it clear for the early commute. He was a hard worker, but always found time for family. He loved to fish, golf, and bowl, and play poker with his friends. Vern had a competitive edge, was thrilled at the prospect of a good drag race, and would get a look of sweet determination on his face as he hunched over a cribbage board. Classic cars were a joy to him and he would cruise his ‘50 Mercury to a car show with Sharon, or just to meet up with friends for a coffee. He will be dearly missed by the many who loved him. Vern was a member of the Eagles of Deer Park-he was also a Volunteer Firefighter and Commissioner of Fire District #4. He was active in several community activities and a member of the Valley Prairie Grange. Vern is survived by his wife of 46 years Sharon of Chattaroy; daughter Darla Arnold and husband Dan of Spokane Valley; son Daryl Reames and wife Sharon Cramer of Spokane Valley; sister Marilyn Blossom of Spokane; sister Lois Williams and husband Harley of Chattaroy; mother-in-law Clara Reames of Spokane; grandchildren Heather and Lacey Arnold of Spokane Valley; Cole and Shad Cramer and Chase Creamer-Meads of Spokane; great grand-daughter Sage Cramer of Spokane; many nieces, nephews, cousins and closest friends Tom and Larry. Vern is preceded in death by his parents Fay and Victor Reames. Visitation will be Tuesday 8AM to Noon at Heritage with a Funeral Service at 1:00PM Tuesday July 3, 2012 at Heritage Chapel with a short reception following and a graveside service at Fairmount Memorial Park. The family would like to have any memorial contributions sent to the American Diabetes Association, 315 W. Mission #20, Spokane 99201.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many kind and compassionate caregivers that were involved in Vern’s care, especially to Dr. Andrew Boulet, the members of Devita Dialysis, and the staff at St. Joseph Care Center.
