Obituary: Grimsrud, Mary

Age 91

GRIMSRUD, Mary
(Age 90)

Was born on September 9, 1920 in Lewiston, Minnesota.

She was the youngest of four children of Emil and Harriet Clausen.

She passed away on June 30, 2012 in Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard A. Grimsrud.

In 1927 her family moved to Spokane where Mary graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

During WWII she was a member of the United Service Organization, helping provide solace and a smile for soldiers far from home.

She met her future husband, Howard during the war and they were married on February 10, 1946.

During the war Mary worked in the Personnel Unit of the War Department and at Galena Field in Spokane.

After the war she worked in a clerical position in the Immigration and Naturalization office in Spokane.

After losing her husband at an early age she later worked for a time at the Federal Crop Insurance office in Spokane.

At all times her efforts were directed toward successfully raising her sons as a single mother.

She enjoyed gardening, antiques, sewing, needlepoint, neighborhood coffee socials, her dogs, and above all spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her two sons: Howard and wife (Joanne) and Alan and wife (Marla) of Spokane; two grandchildren: Kevin Grimsrud of Denver and Luke Grimsrud of Spokane.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 1:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home.
