In brief: Rep. Frank marries longtime partner

Newton, Mass. – U.S. Rep. Barney Frank has tied the knot with his longtime partner in a ceremony officiated by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

Frank, 72, married Jim Ready, 42, in a Saturday evening wedding at the Boston Marriott hotel in Newton, according to Frank spokesman Harry Gural. More than 300 friends, family and colleagues attended.

Frank, a Democrat who is retiring after more than three decades in office, represents the 4th Congressional District in southeastern Massachusetts.

Ready, of Ogunquit, Maine, has a small business doing custom awnings, carpentry, painting, welding and other general handyman services. He’s also a photographer.

Man accused of shooting at three boys

St. Louis – A St. Louis man accused of shooting at three boys who were setting off fireworks faces criminal charges.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that one of the boys, an 11-year-old, was struck near his hip. Police said the boy was in stable condition.

Fifty-six-year-old William Prada was charged Friday with three counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Bail was set at $75,000.

St. Louis police said the boys were shooting off fireworks in an alley Thursday night when the man yelled at them and pulled a firearm. Shots were fired in the direction of the 11-year-old and two 10-year-old boys.

Police say they recovered a firearm when they arrested Prada.

Six duffel bags of human hair stolen

Chicago – Three thieves battered through a wall, crawled close to the floor to dodge motion detectors and stole six duffel bags filled with human hair extensions from a Chicago beauty supply store.

The Chicago Tribune reported Saturday that the hair extensions were worth $230,000.

Store owner Don Shin said the criminals took his best merchandise. Shin said he thinks the culprits will try to sell the extensions on the street or to salons. The thieves broke through a wall from an attached empty storefront at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Extensions can be made from artificial or human hair. They are used in salons to add length and volume to a hairstyle.

Shin said the thieves didn’t take any of “the cheap stuff” and “knew what they were doing.”
