Age 95


FUNK, Agnes Dorothea

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home, on July 5, 2012, at 10:00 PM.

Agnes will long be remembered for her pioneer spirit, her great love of animals, her beautiful flower gardens, her unselfish giving to family, friends and anyone in need, and will be missed by those who love her.


Agnes was born in Rolla, North Dakota, on December 10, 1916, to Harmon Abbott and Dorothea Margaret (Wood) Dillon.

When Agnes was three years old, she was introduced to George I. Funk (six yrs.

old) by her family.

Agnes married her life-long love, George I. Funk, on September 4, 1937, in Rolla, North Dakota.

George and Agnes were married for 73 years.

George and Agnes had six children, Charlie Logan Funk (1938), Donald Robert Funk (1939), Gladys Marie Funk Bateman (1940), Margaret Edith Funk Crofoot (1942), Gloria Jean Funk Hamilton (1947), and Gary George Funk (1950).


George and Agnes lived on a farm in St. John, North Dakota, and moved to Spokane, Washington, in the winter of 1942.

They purchased a home in the Hillyard area and lived there for 67 years.

Agnes is survived by four of her children: Donald, Gladys, Gloria and Gary; two sons-in-law, Charlie and Robert; two sisters, Margaret and Mary; and one brother, Robert; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her mother and father, Harmon (Bud) and Dorothea Dillon, and stepfather, Ben Mytron; her husband, George Funk; her brothers, Jess Charlie Dillon and Harmon (Buster) Abbott Dillon; her daughter, Margaret Crofoot; her son, Charlie Funk; two grandchildren, Donald Jr. and Angela Funk; and one great- grandchild, Jessica L. Funk.

Agnes also lost five sisters-in-law, Edith Gregg, Irene Dillon, Eva Dillon, Dorothy Dillon, and Bea Dillon.


In lieu of flowers, please give a gift of love to needy animals at the Humane Society of Spokane in the name of Agnes Funk.
Visitation for Agnes will be Sunday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in the Alwin Chapel at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. Monroe St. Interment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens, 5909 S. Cheney-Spokane Road.
