(Age 96)

Passed away June 28, 2012, in Spokane, WA.

Izzy was born September 20, 1915, in Seattle, WA.

She was the daughter of George and Mabel (Copeland) Hawkins.

She was raised in Seattle’s Montlake neighborhood, graduated from Garfield High School in 1933, and later graduated from the University of Washington.

After college, Izzy worked in a number of clerical positions.

She later joined the International Association of Machinists, and trained and worked as an inspector for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle from 1942-1945.
Izzy’s love of Girl Scouts began as a young girl in scouting.

Her career with the Girl Scouts started in 1950.

She worked in Arizona, Utah, Tucson, Bremerton, and Spokane.

She retired as Executive Director of the Former Inland Empire Girl Scout Council on December 10, 1980.
Always an active member in her Spokane community, Izzy served on the Board of Directors for the Human Society, Salvation Army, and Visiting Nurses, and was past President and longtime member of Altrusa International.

She traveled throughout the United States and internationally with the Girl Scouts and Altrusa.

Izzy visited many areas including Scotland, Ireland, Greenland, Australia, England, and Mexico.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Merrilyn, and her beloved animals, Joe Clark, Annie, Oliver, Dickens, and lastly, Pikaki.

She is survived by a lifetime of old and new friends, all of whom she loved and cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society or charity or organization of your choice.

A celebration of Izzy’s life will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 AM in the Tsutakawa Memorial Hall located in The Commons on the Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute campus, 4000 W. Randolph Rd, Spokane, WA 99224.
