Dorothy Irene (Partridge)

Was born in Spokane on February 6, 1921 and died in Spokane Valley, July 2, 2012.

She was born in Spokane to Hazel and Bert Partridge and grew up in Garden Springs.

In 1938, she married Melvin L. Hayes.

While raising their four children, they lived in the Spokane area, Yakima, Colville and Othello, finally returning and settling down for good in Spokane Valley in 1964.

Mom grew beautiful flowers and always enjoyed working in their large garden, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables every year.

She was a wonderful cook and well known for her delicious pies.

Her special delight was babies and she could always be found at any family gathering with the newest addition, rocking them to sleep with her magic touch.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Claude, Don and Bob, and her sister, Gladys, daughter, Marilyn Major, granddaughter, Laurie Major and favorite daughter-in-law, Linda Hayes.

She will be truly missed by her husband of 74 years, Melvin Hayes, Sr., Spokane Valley, her son, Melvin Hayes, Jr., Spokane Valley, daughters Shellie Peterson (Stan), Spokane and Melinda Crandall (Keith), Seattle, and son-in-law, Carl Major, Spokane Valley.

She also leaves behind her cherished 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great great-granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11am at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Shriner’s Hospital (www.donate2shc.org), or your favorite charity.
