Obituary: Satchwell, Roy C.


SATCHWELL, Roy C.
(Age 87)

Beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend went home on July 9, 2012.

Roy was born on May 8, 1925 at Hauser Lake, ID to Walter and Correnne Satchwell.

The family farmed on the Rathdrum Prairie and Roy graduated from Post Falls High School.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

After the war he returned to northern Idaho, attending North Idaho Junior College.

Roy then began a career in auto body repair.

He married Anne O. M. Johnson in 1950.

The couple built a home on the Spokane River on Greens Ferry Road in Post Falls, ID where they raised their two sons, Steven and Robert.

While the boys were growing up, Roy built and ran his own garage.

A lifelong outdoorsman, he taught his sons to hunt and fish.

He was active in the Post Falls United Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder for many years.

Roy also coached youth (Peewees, Little League, and Babe Ruth) baseball and was a member of Couer d’Alene Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol.

Roy and Anne retired to Lucille, ID in 1977 where they became paramedics on the Lucille Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Roy also served as Chief of the Lucille Volunteer Fire Department, helped maintain the community Television Association, and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Salmon River canyon.

In 1994, they moved to Lewiston where Roy continued to enjoy fishing and shooting with his good friend, Bob Utter.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald, and his wife Anne of 61 years.

He is survived by his sons Maj. Steven Satchwell (USAF, Ret.)

and spouse Cecilia Garcia of Albuquerque, NM; son Dr. Robert Satchwell and wife Dr. Karla Satchwell of Sherwood Park, AB, Canada; grandson Andrew Satchwell; granddaughter Katherine Satchwell; sister-in-law Dorothy Satchwell of Post Falls, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff of Guardian Angel Homes where Roy spent his final months.


Services are scheduled for 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 12 at the Post Falls Community Presbyterian Church followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will host a reception back at the church following the burial.

Roy’s care is entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME, Lewiston, ID .

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a desired charity.
